The Raid is the Best Action Movie of the Decade!!!
Hello once again
action fans! For this installment of ”When You Say Action” we are going to the
underground foreign action film vault and pull out one of the all time
favorites. I am talking about the
ultimate action film that is a must see for all action movie fans. It’s a movie called “The Raid:Redemption.”
Directed by Gareth Evans (“Footsteps”) the movie is about a group SWAT officers that are trying to
take down a powerful drug lord in an apartment building filled with his henchmen.
But the drug lord finds out about the
raid and he unleashes his gang of thugs on the police officers. Without any hope of backup the officers must
fight for their survival in a 30 story apartment building as they attempt to complete their
mission.
I had never heard
of this movie but the trailer caught my interest. It was filled with so many nonstop action scenes
that I had to do an internet search. I
discovered “The Raid: Redemption” was on
DVD and I was able to purchase a copy at a local discount store. That night as I watched my new movie I was not
disappointed; however, I did have to switch the language from Indonesian to
English.
The first few
minutes are slow as the SWAT team first enters the building. They have no idea what they are getting themselves
into but once the first gunshot is fired, hold on to your seat ladies and
gentlemen.
Now don’t think
that this movie is nothing but bullets flying and explosions like “Lethal Weapon.” No, this film has nonstop fist
to fist action between the characters. The fights are fast paced with a few
weapons that the characters manage to find as they work their way through the
apartments.
One particular
character in the movie that is extremely violent was the drug lord’s main
enforcer called Mad Dog, portrayed by Yanyan Ruhian (“Merantau”). Although he is
the shortest character in the film, he is a blood thirsty killer.
The story line was
somewhat predictable and you could tell where the plot twists were going to occur. But this type of action movie is for
entertainment and not high drama.
The
cast also included Iko Uwais (“Merantau”), Donny Alamsyah (“Hearts of Freedom”),
and Ray Sahetapy (“Jinx”).On a scale of one to ten this movie rates a definite 10.
