Legend of Hercules

As fan of ScottAdkins (“Expendables 2”) who portrayed the bad guy in the recently release of “ The Legend of Hercules”, I went into watching this film hoping to get the feel of that Adkins’ villainy like he has done in his previous movies.  Adkins proved once again that he still can play a good villain and does great action fight scenes.
This movie has its origins in the story of the Greek demigod hero, Hercules, played by Kellan Lutz (“Twilight”), who is betrayed by his step-father King Amphitryon (Adkins) who tried to have him killed by sending him off to war because of his forbidden love with a rival kingdoms princess. Hercules survives and is sold into slavery.   Now Hercules must fight to survive and find his way to back to his love and save his kingdom from Amphitryon.
As I did research on this movie to provide my readers an accurate movie review blog, I noticed other reviews on this movie so as movie fan I read them. Some reviewers seemed to have a problem with the fact that this film didn’t portray Hercules like the Kevin Sorbo (“Hercules: The Legendary Journeys”) characterization of Hercules from back in the 90's or that it doesn't’ really follow the mythology of this great hero.
With that said; as I watched this film, it appealed to me to see Hercules as raw, young, and learning how to be the character of Hercules that Lutz portrayed.  When we first saw Hercules, he didn't have his other-worldly strength. When he finally learned that he was the son of Zeus with his mother played by Roxanne McKee (“Game of Thrones”), he didn't believe it.  He questioned the whereabouts of  Zeus when his step-father sent him to war because of his love for Princess Hebe, who is played by Gaia Weiss (“Mary Queenof Scots”). As the film progressed, we saw Hercules learn to be the almighty hero and accept Zeus as his father.  He became the great demigod that we have always known in Greek mythology.
Throughout the movie there were some good fight sequences; some were in slow motion which reminded me of the movie “300.” The final fight sequence between Lutz and Adkins characters were by far the best from the sword fighting to the hand to hand combat action.  However I’m not going to lie to you, I was pulling for Adkins to win and not get killed by Hercules, but he did get his win in the beginning of the film.

With special affects, good acting, and a pretty decent storyline the “Legend of Hercules” is must see film for all action movie lovers and fans of Scott Adkins.
