Iron Man 3
After months of waiting
since “The Avengers” movie, we finally get to see the return of Iron Man in his
third installment on the big screen.
“Iron Man 3” made
over 175 million dollars in its opening weekend and plowed its way through the
competition to be number 1 in the box office according to imdb.com and is directed by Shane Black ("Last Action Hero").
Tony Stark,
portrayed Robert Downey Jr. (“Sherlock Homes”) has his world torn apart by a
formidable terrorist known as The Mandarin, played by Bill Kingsley (“ShutterIsland”). With his world destroyed Stark sets out on a mission of vengeance to
bring those responsible to justice. He finds his back against the wall as he is
left to survive by his own devices. Stark must rely on his ingenuity and
instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark
discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the
man make the suit or does the suit make the man?
Other cast members
include Don Cheadle (“Iron Man 2”), Gwyneth Paltrow (“Possession”) and Guy Pearce (“Lockout”).
Even though this
seems like another blockbuster movie to the Marvel franchise, Downey doesn’t know
how much longer he will portray Iron Man.
According to
IGN.com article, Downey talks about maybe retiring the beloved Marvel
character. "This period of time, this shall pass," said Downey
Jr. "Fortunately I've been around
the block enough that I'm not ill-prepared. And I love change. I love it when a
lightning bolt hits the genny and you're down for two hours on the set. Now,
this isn't a lightning strike, this is like the warning of a gathering
storm."
The storm refers to
Downey’s injury on the set of “Iron Man 3,” which in turn shut down production
for several weeks.
Downey goes on to explain
how it feels if he can or cannot keep doing follow up after follow up for the
Marvel franchise with this character.
“The Avengers 2” was
announced by director Joss Whedon at the MTV (Music Television) movie awards
after the first installment beat “The Dark Knight Rises” for movie of the year.
Downey hasn’t signed on for his role as Iron Man just yet. The actor did
however earn 50 million dollars from the first film and it is likely he may
return for a second installment.
Right now things
continue to be undecided as to whether Downey will once again don the iron suit
or be replaced by another actor as Iron Man. To me, Robert Downey Jr. is Iron
Man and it would not be the same with another actor in the role.
