Wonder Woman - A Fresh Light in the DC Film Universe

Going into this movie everyone had high hopes. I know I did.
After “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” set up a ton I mean a ton of
different story lines in the DC universe, I was really disappointed that it
didn’t focus much on the main story-line as it should have. Next came “Suicide Squad” which was a great movie, but the main thing that killed fans was Jared Leto’s (Dallas Buyers Club) version of the Joker. Now we have Wonder Woman with her own origin story
film debuting this past weekend, and I have to say this is what DC needs to do
with all its films.
“Wonder Woman”
explores how Diana (Gal Gadot - Furious 7), princess of the Amazons, became the hero we've
all read about in the comics. Growing up and training to one day protect the
world from the God of War Aries’ return, her destiny comes to life when a pilot,
Steve Trevor portrayed by Chris Pine (Star Trek), crashes a plane near her home island.
After surviving an attack from German soldiers that followed Steve, he tells
Diana about the Great War (a.k.a World War I), she figures it’s Aries, and she
must leave her home to stop him, the war, and senseless killing.

The dramatic and comedic
tones in this whole film were perfect and well-balanced. The movie didn’t seem
at all to be a somewhat or totally dark movie like the past DC movies. In other
words, the comedy bits and story line were very easy to follow. This is what I feel DC has been missing.
Marvel movies such as “Iron Man” or “The Avengers” have really nailed down the
formula for making a great superhero movie. However, I feel DC is beginning to
finally nail their formula down as well for the DC franchise and will be quite
the competitor to Marvel in the future. Let’s not forget, most importantly, all
of our favorite DC hero’s movies will be just as amazing as this movie.
I appreciate all
the hard work and passion behind the making of “Wonder Woman,” especially with
director Patty Jenkins (Monster) behind the camera lens. This was the first solo female
action hero movie that was directed by a female director. That is definitely
cool stuff, and with that said, the action sequences were great. CGI was perfect, and the actors for each part
felt just right. In all, “Wonder Woman” is a refreshing light for the DC
Universe. I’m excited to see where they go from here, especially with “Justice League” coming out later this year.
If you gave up on
DC live action movies, you may want to rethink that opinion with this movie. On
my movie scale I give “Wonder Woman” a 10 out of 10 with no Ben Affleck (Argo) in
sight during the whole movie. Yes!
Until next time, I’ll
be loving my action movies.
